In a milestone moment for Namibia’s digital transformation, the Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security ([MHAISS](https://eservices.mhaiss.gov.na/)), in partnership with [UNDP Namibia,](https://www.undp.org/namibia) has launched a national public awareness campaign to introduce Namibia’s first electronic identity card (e-ID). The launch event, held at the Ministry headquarters, took the form of an interactive #UnConference, bringing together community leaders, government officials, and technology stakeholders in an open and citizen-driven dialogue. The innovative format aimed to promote transparency and inclusivity, ensuring the public remains at the heart of Namibia’s digital journey. Hon. Lucia Iipumbu, Minister of Home Affairs, and Dr. Christian Shingiro, UNDP Namibia Deputy Resident Representative, emphasized the e-ID’s potential to streamline public service delivery and foster equitable access to opportunities. The e-ID is positioned not merely as a piece of technology but as a **symbol of dignity, inclusion, and empowerment** for every Namibian. This public campaign marks the beginning of a broader initiative to ensure national understanding and adoption of the e-ID system. With support from the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology ([MICT](https://mict.gov.na/)), the [Namibian Correctional Service,](https://ncs.gov.na/) and other key stakeholders, the government aims to make digital governance accessible and meaningful for all. The e-ID initiative reflects Namibia’s growing commitment to building an inclusive digital society where every citizen can participate fully and confidently in the digital age.
