Sad Kids In America is the debut EP from songwriter and acclaimed film director Nick Hampson, who writes and performs under the pseudonym of ‘Now Ex’. The aesthetic is the culmination of the neon orange era of the project, that encompasses all the singles that precede it. Here the artist himself can be seen submerged in a bath, facing away from the camera towards a window through which sunlight pours. There is a tangible sense of both beauty and emptiness. The contrast-heavy, colourful ambience is typical of Now Ex’s visual style, and matches many of his videos, as well as artwork, and indeed this window is featured as the backdrop to the official Sad Kids In America music video, due out on the 9th December, 2021. Nick recently directed a feature length film that was nominated for a 2021 Emmy award, and he’s known for bringing that same level of visual flare to Now Ex.
