If you like Flora Purim, Airto and Herbie Hancock you'll probably like the World in Eclipse album. Jazz fusion was invented by Miles Davis with his Bitches Brew album. It featured appearances from a young Keith Jarrett and Chick Corea, plus others who would go on to become the leading figures in contemporary Jazz. They collectively created a new style of Jazz which embraced the electronic age with its use of synthesizers and was/is extremely technically challenging to play, often using complex music arrangements. Jazz Fusion requires a virtuoso technique. World in Eclipse is Merv de Peyer's homage to this brief but colourful moment in Jazz history. "The idea was to produce a jazz fusion album with more song orientated compositions". It features the unique vocal talents of French/Egyptian born singer Nini Sakhri, who co-wrote some of the songs with Merv. Leading UK guitarist Dominic Grant added an almost bluesy quality, his soulful Jazz harmonies and light-fingered musical approach showing a deep understanding of the idiom. The resulting album could be described as being retro, but Merv believes the memorable songs and easy going ambience sets it apart from the jazz fusion of the 1970/80s. This limited edition consists of 100 items.
