COVER ART FOR FATES WARNING ‘AWAKEN THE GUARDIAN’ Painted in the summer of 1986, this image graced the cover of the historic release by prog metal band Fates Warning. In the decades that followed, the cover and album itself have gained fame and notoriety, held up as the finest examples of the genre. A perennial favourite of fans and critics, and constantly voted one of the best top five album covers of all time for the genre. It has been reproduced countless times as posters, t-shirts, backdrops, tattoos, jackets, limited edition prints and all types of merchandise. Now it is entering the metaverse as an animated NFT, created in partnership with electronic musician and media artist Martin Kennedy of the band ALL INDIA Radio - an historic first to coincide with the 35th anniversary of the album’s release. "The years 1983 to 1987 was a very busy time for me, as commissions and requests for album cover art came from bands, managers and labels. I had created my first international album cover and an MTV video for EPIC/COLOMBIA records, and I was now on everyone's radar. Mostly working with metal and hard rock bands, at first I worked as an illustrator, making paintings and handing them in. It was late in 1986 that I started to dabble in album cover design, art direction and merchandise design, becoming a proper design studio. It was an insane rollercoaster ride, that has not stopped to this day."
